My favorite is MS Word. Any software that produces PDF can be used. For individuals the good option is lulu.com where you can submit PDF, choose format, design your cover and print even the single copy without paying hundreds of dollars or euro. My first copy cost me only 20 euro including delivery. Publishers with many books like myself can access POD manufactures directly but for you lulu.com might be the ideal solution to try and start. I'll publish a blog post soon describing the whole process in more detail.
